KCCI archives: Judges look for volume during 1993 Iowa State Fair Husband Calling Contest
mom the Mhm. Okay, husbands, how would you like it if your wife called you like this? Yeah. Get in suffer. I'm gonna feed it to the dog. That's just what they were doing in the annual State Fair husband calling competition today at Pioneer Hall. Many contestants are farmers wives who say at times this is the only way they can be heard. Oh, sweetie, lovey honey. Do I kind of rest the tractor? The winner, Bonnie Swalwell Island of Newton says she has a problem with magazine salesman who call up asking to speak only with her husband Roy. Oh, I just know, it's so stupid. Sales people on the telephone again. I just know it. He's gonna be so angst with me. What what a lot of times they won't say there's something I can help them with. They'll say they'll call back later. And it's always a magazine salesman. So how do you judge something like this? Well, these judges say they look for originality, of course, and something that's unique to this competition. Volume, volume, volume. Yo yo ma! If you thought those wives were allowed, just listen to the youthful lung power of these kids, calling their mothers in the state Fair Mom calling contest. No help. Maybe the calls ranged from polite mom, Mom. Where are you to ear piercing To the necessary like that of the winner. eight year old David Denton of Fair Mom. We're out of toilet paper. Mom. The toilet paper. This emergency, wow, Let's hear it for everybody. Same and play with us today. Yeah.
