‘Hunting for a gem’: The Crystal Lake Cave is home to a beautiful collection of crystals
Being part of the United States drift. This region debuted has some very interesting geography. It gives us *** unique opportunity to start our exploration. Not from the historic north end, not from the gorgeous south end but from down below. That's right, we're headed to Crystal Lake caves. Our friend Pablo is here to tell us more. Crystal Cave is *** small tourist attraction. It is about *** three quarter of *** mile uh tour that you go through the cave. We also talk about *** little bit of history. If you guys come through one of the tours and pay attention you might learn something. What are some things that families can do together here? Of course the most important part of it, the 45 minute guided tour with *** guide through the cave and looking at all the pretty crystals and all the beautiful formations. We also have picnic grounds. You can sit down and enjoy lunch with your family. We have loose mining where you can hunt for gems. You have so much going on here. I think I would cave under the pressure but you all seem to have it under control. My favorite thing about Crystal Lake Cave is the fact that it brings families together being in *** cave. Children just love that. I think that's my favorite part of it is the reaction that I get from the kids. Okay, I feel like I'm might be just as excited as those kids to see the inside of the cave onward time to explore the depths. Welcome to Crystal Lake Cave, my name is molly and I'll be your guide today. We're gonna start off by walking down these stairs along this ceiling here you can find these throughout the cave. These are called stalactites. Over here would be *** stalagmite and stalactite and stalagmites will form together and they That's *** very slow process. They only grow an inch about every 100 years. They both look so smooth. Our visitors allowed to you know touch them. We do have *** $5,000 fine for touching the crystal formations. Ah definitely don't touch the crystals and got it. The oils in your hands can actually cause them to stop growing. Some of them are millions and thousands of years old so we really don't want that to happen. And then throughout the cave you will see these little tunnels in the walls. If you do go under wild cave tours you can actually explore these areas, it's all crawling and you do get pretty dirty but it is *** fun experience. That's one example when having tunnel vision would be *** good thing. And let's not forget this is Crystal Lake caves. So Crystal Lake is 30 ft long for feet wide and 2.5 ft deep. And if you brought your swimsuits I don't recommend using those because it's only 42 F. You know I'm not sure if the cold is the only thing that would deter me from diving in. It's also *** bit spiky er than the pools I'm used to, regardless. Thank you, molly and Pablo for giving us *** one of *** kind dive under Dubuque.
