Perry High School football is back on the field in 2023
FULL 2023 SEASON DEWEY FIELD HERE AT PERRY HIGH SCHOOL. EMPTY, JUST LIKE IT WAS AT THE END OF LAST FOOTBALL SEASON. BUT THE HOPE IS WITH SOME FIVE DOZEN STUDENTS TAKING PART IN SUMMER FOOTBALL WORKOUTS, THEY’VE GIVEN THE BOOT TO ANY THOUGHT OF CANCELING FOOTBALL GAMES THIS SEASON. LET’S GO KICK IN. WE CAUGHT UP WITH SOME OF THE CAPTAINS WORKING OUT IN THE TURF ROOM SLASH WEIGHT ROOM. THEY TELL US THEY ARE IN A RUSH TO BLOCK OUT A DISAPPOINTING END TO THE 2022 FOOTBALL SEASON. WE USE IT AS MOTIVATION FOR US. YOU KNOW, GOING TO THE WEIGHT ROOM, WE’RE GETTING OPEN GYMS IN. WE’RE DISAPPOINTED. OBVIOUSLY, BUT WE WANT TO COME BACK BETTER THIS YEAR. NO RETURNING PLAYER MAY BE AS ANXIOUS TO BLITZ THE FIELD AS SENIOR KEEGAN SNYDER. IT WAS A REAL ROLLERCOASTER FOR ME. I BROKE MY THUMB GAME FIVE AND WAS OUT ALREADY AND THEN I HEARD OUR SEASON WAS GETTING CANCELED. THE BUILDING BLOCKS TO HAVING THE NUMBERS TO FIELD A VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM IN 2023 IS BEING BUILT ON THE BACKS OF THE 2022 GAMES THAT WERE CANCELED. WE JUST SAID WE ARE GOING TO START INSTILLING CONFIDENCE IN OUR GUYS FROM DAY ONE AND THAT’S WHAT WE’VE BEEN DOING, RIGHT? SO CONFIDENCE SHOWING THROUGH THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS INVOLVED IN SUMMER WORKOUTS, GIVING PERRY ADMINISTRATORS CONFIDENCE. THE 2023 FOOTBALL SEASON WILL NOT END PREMATURELY. TO KNOW THAT WE HAVE ABOUT 60 KIDS OUT RIGHT NOW IS IS SUPER EXCITING FOR US TO BE ABLE TO KIND OF GAUGE INTEREST THAT WAY. THE 2022 FOOTBALL SEASON ENDED EARLY FOR PERRY HIGH SCHOOL, BUT THE SEASON WAS NOT A TOTAL LOSS. THEY WON A DRAMATIC GAME IN OVERTIME AGAINST DES MOINES HOOVER LAST SEPTEMBER AND THIS YEAR. THEIR SEASON STARTS FRIDAY AUGUST 25TH AGAINST HOOVER AT HOME IN PERRY MARC
