A 13-year-old soccer star has become the youngest professional player in American team sports history. Da’vian Kimbrough, who has been a member of Sacramento Republic FC's youth development academy, signed a contract with the club that makes him eligible to compete for Republic’s first team.Republic FC said Kimbrough’s age at the signing, 13 years, 5 months and 13 days, made the signing historic. Kimbrough will be added to the team’s roster pending league and federation approval and will also continue his development in the club’s academy. “Da’vian’s journey with Republic FC is just beginning. He is a remarkable talent who has committed to his dream of becoming an elite player, from competing with players in older age groups and thriving at top competitions, to stepping on to the first team training grounds,” Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant said in a statement. “We are honored that the Kimbrough family and Da’vian have chosen Republic FC to support his professional pathway, and we look forward to taking the next steps together.”Kimbrough has been with Republic FC’s academy since 2021 and has been a prolific goal scorer and played in divisions with older players. Kimbrough was named MVP of the Bassevelde U13 Cup, a prestigious youth tournament. The new contract means that Kimbrough can play in Republic FC’s USL Championship matches while also continuing his studies with Elk Grove Charter School. Kimbrough previously played for North Bay Elite FC and Woodland Soccer Club.
