Ribbon cutting held for Trailridge School in Waukee
CHANNEL 8.2. NEW AT SIX, A NEW SCHOOL IS READY TO OPEN IN WAUKEE ABOUT AN HOUR AGO. YOU’RE LOOKING AT IT RIGHT THERE. THE WAUKEE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT CUT THE RIBBON ON IT. IT’S CALLED TRAIL RIDGE SCHOOL. TODAY WE LEARNED IT’S NOT THE ONLY NEW SCHOOL BUILDING GOING UP IN THE CITY WITH A BOOMING POPULATION. IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS, TRAIL RIDGE SCHOOL IN WAUKEE WILL WELCOME STUDENTS FOR THE FIRST TIME THE GRAND OPENING OF A NEW SCHOOL IS SOMETHING THE DISTRICT CELEBRATES AS WE TRY TO MAKE IT INVITING TO THE COMMUNITY TO COME OUT. KIRK JOHNSON IS THE DISTRICT’S CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER WALKING AROUND THE TRAIL RIDGE SCHOOL BUILDING. IT LOOKS TO BE INVITING TO THE ALMOST 456TH AND SEVENTH GRADERS WHO START SCHOOL HERE AUGUST 23RD. AS EXCITING AS THIS NEW SCHOOL MAY BE, IT IS NOT THE ONLY ONE. NORTH MIDDLE SCHOOL IS BEING BUILT NEARBY. ITS CLASS BELL WILL START RINGING FOR STUDENTS IN THE FALL OF 2025. A LOT OF GROWTH. THE DISTRICT HAS PLANS TO HANDLE THAT A LONG STANDING COMMITMENT TO BE ATTENDED TO. OUR GROWTH BECAUSE OUR COMMUNITIES GROW WHILE THE GROWTH IS IMPORTANT, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE DO IS EDUCATE STUDENTS AND WORK WITH OUR COMMUNITY. A GROWING COMMUNITY THAT IS INVITING TO SOME. MARGIE NELSON MOVED TO THE AREA ABOUT A DECADE AGO. SHE IS PLEASED WITH THE INTANGIBLES SHE SAYS HAVE COME ALONG WITH THE GROWTH. AND ONE OF THE REASONS WE CAME OUT HERE WAS BECAUSE OF THE GROWTH, BECAUSE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM IS GREAT, BECAUSE THERE’S LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS HERE. THIS IS WHAT IOWA IS ALL ABOUT. The Waukee Community School District held a ribbon-cutting for the district's newest school on Thursday evening."We try to make it inviting to the community to come out," District COO Kirk Johnson said.In less than two weeks, Trailridge School will open its doors to students for the first time. It will be home to almost 450 sixth and seventh graders.But there are more schools coming. The district is building North Middle School near Trailridge, which will open in 2025. Waterford Elementary will be open in 2024.The Waukee district continues to expand as the city grows."We've had a long-standing commitment to be attendant to our growth," Johnson said.Growth is not a bad thing, according to Margie Nelson, who moved to the area about a decade ago."One of the reasons we came here was because of growth. Because the school system is great," Nelson said.This fall, Waukee has more than 13,500 students registered for school.
