A 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL IS HURT AFTER BEING HIT BY A PICK-UP IN MARSHALLTOWN. POLICE SAY SHE WAS RIDING HER BIKE THIS AFTERNOON WHEN THE CRASH HAPPENED. SHE WAS FLOWN TO A DES MOINES HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. THE POLICE CHIEF SAYS THE PICK-UP DRIVER LEFT THE SCENE BUT THEN RETURNED A COUPLE HOURS LATER. <<306-3:19, "WE'RE THANKFUL WE KNOW EVERYONE WHO'S INVOLVED. WE'RE NOT LOOKING FOR ANYONE RIGHT NOW, WE ARE LOOKING FOR WITNESSES. WE ARE CURRENTLY CANVASSING THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR ANY CAMERAS IN HOMES THAT MIGHT HELP DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENED."

A nine-year-old girl was hit by a pickup truck in a residential neighborhood in Marshalltown Thursday afternoon. Police say the crash happened at 1:20 p.m. near the intersection of North 6th Avenue and Union Street. The child suffered lower body injuries. She was transported to UnityPoint Hospital and then immediately taken to a Des Moines area hospital. Marshalltown police Chief Michael Tupper said the injuries "did seem fairly serious when she left."Police say the driver of the pickup truck immediately left the scene after he hit the girl. He then returned to the scene hours later and has been cooperating with officials ever since."We're thankful that we know who's involved. We're not looking for anybody at this point," Tupper said. "We are looking for witnesses. We're currently canvassing the neighborhood, looking for anybody that might have cameras on their homes that might help us determine what happened." The incident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Police say there's no indication of impaired driving or substance abuse.
