'I'm nervous': KCCI's Eric Hanson arm wrestles a viewer at Iowa State Fair
FUN FOREST STAGE, WE’D LOVE TO SEE YOU THERE. SO, ERIC, NOW WE TURN OUR ATTENTION TO YOU. WHAT DO YOU HAVE ON STAGE? WHO DO YOU HAVE ON STAGE WITH YOU? RIGHT NOW? THE FAIR IS ALL ABOUT COMPETITIONS, RIGHT? WE’VE GOT A POWERFUL ONE HERE. WE’RE TALKING MONSTER ARM WRESTLING. AND LEANNE KRUG IS KIND OF ONE OF THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT. THIS IS THE MACHINE OVER LIANE’S SHOULDER. BUT LEANNE, TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS COMPETITION AND HOW THE MACHINE WORKS. WELL, THIS IS LIKE ROPE PULLING WITH THE STIFF ROPE. OKAY. YOU SIT DOWN TO THE MACHINE, YOUR HANDS ON THE PEGS, ELBOWS AND THE PAD SEATS AND THE SEAT. THREE, TWO, ONE. WRESTLE. YOU WRESTLE FOR THREE MINUTES OR UNTIL SOMEBODY TURNS ON A LIGHT. EACH MINUTE COUNTS AS A POINT IF YOU GET IT ON YOUR SIDE. OKAY. AND THESE TWO. SO WHY DO YOU NEED THE MACHINE AS OPPOSED TO JUST GRABBING EACH OTHER’S HANDS? OKAY. SEE THIS? YES. YEAH. MOST GIRLS DON’T WANT TO TAKE A HOLD OF IT RIGHT. WHEN YOU’RE BIGGER THAN THEIR HUSBAND. NOW, YOU’VE BEEN OUT AT THE FAIR FOR A LONG TIME. I’VE BEEN HERE 43. THE MONSTER’S BEEN HERE 45 YEARS. SO? SO I DO THIS. I LIVE ALL YEAR ROUND FOR THIS. THAT’S RIGHT. AND THE COMPETITION IS COMING UP THIS SUNDAY. YOU GUYS ARE PROBABLY EXPERTS AT IT, BUT WE’VE CALLED JEFF IN HERE AND IT’S MY TURN TO GO. I’M PUTTING MYSELF UP AGAINST TROUBLE HERE. WE KNOW THAT. JEFF, COME ON IN. JEFF WHERE ARE YOU FROM? CHAMPLIN, MINNESOTA. MINNESOTA. OKAY, SIT DOWN. TELL US HOW THIS IS GOING TO WORK. LIANE OKAY. OKAY. PUT YOUR ARM HERE. I’M HERE. OKAY. ADJUST IT. YEAH, I HAVE LONG ARMS. OKAY. I DON’T KNOW IF THAT’S A GOOD THING OR A BAD THING. I’M READY TO BE KILLED. IT DOESN’T MAKE AS MUCH DIFFERENCE. OKAY. HERE. THROW YOUR HAND UNDER. UNDER THERE. OKAY. JEFF, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I’M LETTING YOU WIN. OKAY? I HOLD THIS. OKAY. HERE WE GO. WE’RE SUPPOSED TO STRADDLE THIS. OKAY, I GUESS WE’RE GOING TO DO THIS. AND I’M NERVOUS. I’M SWEATING BECAUSE IT’S HOT. BUT JEFF IS INTIMIDATING. IF NOTHING ELSE. ALL RIGHT. OKAY. HANDS ON THE PEGS. ELBOWS ON THE PEGS. YEP. SEATS TO THE SEAT. YEP. THREE, TWO, ONE. WRESTLE. EVEN. I. TAKE ME OUT. OH. CHAMPION, CHAMPION. RIGHT THERE. CONGRATULATIONS, JEFF. MONSTER ARM WRESTLING IS COMING UP SUNDAY AT 1 P.M. AT THE CATTLE BARN ENTRY FEE IS 25 BUCKS, ONE HOUR SIGN UP PERIOD. THE ACTUAL WRESTLING LASTS ABOUT 3 TO 4 HOURS, SET TEN MINUTES, SIGN UP. OKAY. IT’S SEPARATED INTO DIFFERENT WEIGHT CLASSES FOR MEN AND WOMEN. SO I DON’T LOSE TO PEOPLE LIKE JEFF. IT’S HOT AND SWEATY OUT HERE. AND AND IT’S NOT JUST THAT I LOST. IT’S HUMID OUT HERE AS WELL
