The Elevation Off Grid (EOG) Rig took first place at the just completed 2024 Overland Expo Mountain West in Loveland, Colorado. The “top rig” award was given by Truck Camper Adventure, a web magazine for off-road, off-grid truck camper enthusiasts. Functionality and good looks were the prime factors considered in choosing the winner.
As a truck camper rig, the EOG Rig has it all. It all starts with EOG Ford F-550 Black Edition with 41-inch super singles and a LiquidSpring Suspension, outfitted with a Bowen Customs truck bed with loads of storage. Topping it all off is a luxurious Host Mammoth 11.6 triple-slide truck camper—the largest slide-in truck camper in today’s market—equipped with an “off-grid extreme” package consisting of a 1,200 amp hour off-grid battery system, 800 watts of solar, and a 3,000 watt inverter. Both the truck and the custom truck bed are painted a matching “Nardo Grey,” a custom color not offered by Ford.
Elevation Off-Grid (EOG) builds the best, most capable pickup truck on the planet. As a matter of fact, EOG is the only Ford F-550 and Ram 5500 pickup manufacturer in the world. EOG’s Class 5 trucks not only offer a GVWR of 19,500 pounds with a nearly 10,000 pound payload, but also a silky-smooth ride comparable to the Ford F-150 and the Ram Power Wagon using the highly-regarded LiquidSpring Suspension. EOG normally builds an 8-foot OEM-style truck bed for it’s Class 5 trucks, but in this case the customer wanted a Bowen Customs truck bed for extra storage.
“This rig really has it all,” said Jerime Monroe, Elevation Off Grid co-owner and CEO. “There’s almost nothing it doesn’t have. The truck’s painted in a one-of-kind color—Nardo Grey. The Host Mammoth that’s on it has more living space than anything else in the market, and the Bowen Customs bed adds loads of storage and looks great. The versatility of something like this where you have a really large living quarters can’t be beat. You can pull a really big trailer, unhitch, take the camper off, and still have a truck with the LiquidSpring suspension to drive around in. The truck rides great, handles great and has one-touch earth-leveling. It’s badass. This rig’s got everything you could possibly want.”
Bowen Customs builds one of the best truck beds in today’s market. The company offers beds for both standard slide-in truck campers, like the Host Mammoth, and truck toppers, like the Four Wheel Camper Project M. With an angular, sloping rear kickback, it’s also probably the best looking. Using doors, latches, and seals of a premium quality and constructed using aluminum and steel for extra durability and strength, all Bowen Customs beds are designed to handle the weight of the OEM bed. Better yet, all Bowen Customs truck beds are proudly made in USA at the company’s factory in Arvada, Colorado.
“We’re honored to take the top position,” said Brent Bowen, owner and CEO of Bowen Customs. “We’re super proud of this build. It was a fun one for us to build, not only partnering with Elevation Off-Grid again, but this customer gave us free reign to go all out on it. It was also one of the first chassis cab builds after we re-engineered the entire lineup. So a lot of time went into this specific truck bed build. This paved the way for a lot of the builds we’re doing right now. It’s an 84-inch CA and our first 30-inch garage on the chassis cabs, built specifically for these larger campers like the Host Mammoth. If you look at the tie-downs and the doors, you’ll notice nothing is blocked by the tie-downs. Of course, all of our signature high clearance, departure angle, and things like that are included. This was just a really fun one and just tops it off to win first-place.”
When it comes to luxury camping, it’s hard to beat the Host Mammoth 11.6. Inside, you’ll find a “host” of amenities and high-end touches not found in your typical truck camper. These include a leather sofa, an electric fireplace, a mantel with a 32-inch flat-screen TV, a huge dry bath with a porcelain toilet and a large shower, a two-door 8 cubic foot refrigerator, molded counter tops, and a massive, four-door pantry in the kitchen. With an overall length of 19 feet 3 inches, and a floor length of 11 feet 6 inches, it’s one of the largest slide-in truck campers in the industry. Part of what makes the Mammoth so big is that it features three slide-outs. These slide-outs create an enormous amount of living space—180 square feet to be exact—the equivalent of what you’ll find in a large motorhome.
“We were all very excited about receiving the “top rig” award at the 2024 Overland Expo Mountain West,” said Matt Lawler, Host Industries Sales Manager. “When you take the top three companies in the game—truck, bed, and camper—and merge them, good things are bound to happen. EOG and Bowen Customs have made many of our customers extremely ‘happy campers’ over the years. The innovative engineering and curb appeal of EOG’s trucks and Bowen Custom’s beds are the ultimate platform for our campers. We have many owners out there who have taken advantage of this perfect blend over the years. I would like to thank Brent and Jerime for their support and we look forward to a long and continued history working together and building dreams for our customers.”
The 2024 Overland Expo Mountain West was held in Loveland, Colorado, August 23-25. Over 20,000 people attended the big, three-day event which included 340 exhibitors, and over 200 classes.
