Comment on Roadloft Introduces First Removable Pickup Camper Conversion Kit by David https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/roadloft-introduces-first-removable-pickup-camper-conversion-kit/#comment-11995 Mon, 13 Jan 2025 15:53:31 +0000 https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/?p=73612#comment-11995 I did a build in my Truck bed in preparation for a cross country trip with my motorcycle on a carrier behind the truck. I even created a false tailgate with a cutout for a 5000 btu window AC that set on the truck tailgate. It got the inside down to 68 degrees for sleeping but wouldn’t remove the humidity. Carrying a dehumidifier also would have taken up too much room.
It is that build that told me I was ready for more and bought a loaded 2022 Capri Cowboy in 2024. Already planning another cross country trip with motorcycle on the rack this spring.

I was thinking the same thing! I’d grab one tomorrow for $5K. Even a little more with inflation, but $12K? No way! That’s way too much for just a step up from a tent!

Comment on Essential Gear and Strategies for Winter Truck Camping by WALTER DONNELLAN https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/essential-gear-and-strategies-for-winter-truck-camping/#comment-11985 Thu, 12 Dec 2024 16:04:15 +0000 https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/?p=73264#comment-11985 As to not wearing extra clothes in your sleeping bag (insulating against your insulation), that is simply an engineering impossibility. Perhaps you mean don’t wear wet clothes to bed. Or perhaps you mean don’t compress your insulation unnecessarily. But otherwise, more insulation means less heat transfer and that is what you want.

I have a ford F350 XLT with the extended cab (1/2 not full rear door). I’m not sure why, but I don’t have a photo of the bikes in the back seat. I will be able to get one in early January when we pick up our new Phoenix Camper in Denver and put them in the back seat again. The seats have to be folded up.

Comment on How to Raise the Payload Rating of Your Truck by WyoBull https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/how-to-raise-the-payload-rating-of-your-truck/#comment-11979 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 17:30:03 +0000 https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/?p=73140#comment-11979 Bottom line… get enough truck for the load you are going to haul!

Too many people already have a truck when they decide to get a truck camper and instead of fitting a camper to the truck they already have, they buy the camper they want and try to make it fit the truck.

In my experience a lot of the dealers are culpable in allowing this to happen as they want to sell a camper and will gladly send it out the door fully aware the rig is overweight.

Comment on Top 10 Truck Camper Mistakes and Pitfalls by WALTER https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/top-10-truck-camper-pitfalls/#comment-11978 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 17:12:25 +0000 https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/?p=12210#comment-11978 For completeness, the DOT rules requiring tank inspection that apply to portable tanks do not apply to all propane tanks on all campers. For example, permanently mounted tanks found on many camper vans are ASME tanks rather than DOT cylinders. Those of us who have these tanks regularly encounter confusion at propane filling stations asking about our proof of inspection, which is not required.
