We are selling our 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 and 2015 XPCamper XP V1 Flatbed camper combo. We built this truck camper combo specifically to travel the Pan American highway from Alaska to Argentina. We sought out a camper that would fit our needs for long-term travels in a level of comfort we desired. We chose the Gen-3 Dodge Ram as our truck platform due to its extremely dependable and proven Cummins 5.9L diesel engine, no emission control systems, known durability and creature comforts that came with the Laramie package. We found our one-owner fabled “unicorn” truck with 4WD, dual rear wheels (later converted to singles), 6-speed manual and the top-of-the-line Laramie trim package in our own hometown of Portland, Oregon. Until recently we traveled and lived in our rig fulltime for 3.5 years, visiting half of the U.S. states, four Canadian territories, and 30 of the 31 states in Mexico. Our PanAm plans were dashed by Covid-19 border closures in March of 2020, forcing us into a long-term stay in Oaxaca, Mexico. When borders opened, we decided to return to the U.S. and explore more of our home country. Now we’re offering this ultimate rig for sale to a new owner that’s ready to use it for their own adventures and exploration.
XPCamper V1 Camper – Build #24 Completed May 2015
The XPCamper has been reviewed here multiple times, so I’ll skip rehashing everything. The single fuel system (diesel), solar power system, large battery capacity and water tanks make the setup perfect for long-term off-grid camping. The upgraded solar charging system allows for free and quick replenishing of any power used overnight, but driving the truck will also recharge the camper batteries.
It has everything you need for long-term travel including a full-size queen bed, quality marine Webasto diesel appliances, and a comfortable rear dinette with a huge top-hung panorama window. It has a clever indoor sit-down toilet and shower cubicle that, when closed, transforms into an extra work or food-prep surface, adding to the feeling of open space. The high ceiling of the camper allows for a 6-foot+ tall person to fully stand up inside the camper, and unlike other pop-up campers you can sit fully upright on the bed, meaning no need to hunch over. The single use of diesel fuel for the truck, cooktop and heater means there’s no need for propane storage or filling, and the inherent condensation from using a liquified gas indoors. See James Young’s excellent review of his Dodge Ram/XPCamper combo here.
XPCamper production has been reborn as Nimbl Vehicles Evolution based in Colfax, California. They are available as a resource for maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
Many modifications and updates have been done to the camper to make it reliable and make it look and function better than new. These include an updated Victron solar controller and monitor, new Lifeline AGM batteries, an additional 190 watt solar panel, an added ARB fridge/freezer mounted in the truck, a SOG toilet cassette vent system, an outdoor shower, roof vent covers, and a larger 8.7 gallons/33L diesel tank for the Webasto cooktop and heater. Also included are numerous spare items and even kitchen goodies such as a portable induction cooktop, an Instant Pot pressure cooker and a collapsible multi-fuel outdoor grill. See the complete list of items below.
2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab 4WD
The original owner used the truck for only minimal towing of a flatbed trailer (no 5th wheel or even travel trailers). The engine has never been used with a “tuner” or souped up in any way. Early 2007 was the last year that diesel engines in the U.S. did not require Ultra-Low-Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), emissions controls, EGR, DPF, catalytic converters, or sometimes hard-to-locate DEF. It’s the perfect truck for those wanting to travel to areas with no ULSD such as Mexico, Latin America and South America.
The truck has been modified to be both reliable and be a very capable off-road rig that can go places ordinary pickups can’t go. Highlights include a Titan 60-gallon fuel tank, a Pacbrake exhaust brake, an XPCamper truck tray flatbed with numerous storage boxes, Icon Vehicle Dynamics 2-inch lift and 2.5-inch reservoir shocks, a Buckstop front bumper with Baja Designs lights and Warn winch, a custom-made rear bumper with tow hitch, a new Pioneer touch-panel stereo system with amp and speakers, a Clifford alarm system, front and rear ARB locking axles, Dynatrac free-spin hubs, an ARB air compressor with tank, a Cobra CB radio, Garmin dashcam, and an InReach/Garmin satellite messenger. Contact me for a detailed list and items that will be included in the sale.

- New fuel injectors were installed 9/13/19 at 143,278 miles.
Known Issues:
Passenger door window has two cracks, it was hit by a rock thrown up by a Trophy Truck in the Baja 1000 off-road race – this window is laminated safety glass like the windshield and poses no risk of breaking. The electric sliding rear window does not operate, I suspect a bad motor as it makes a grinding noise but the window doesn’t slide – It was like this when we purchased the truck, we have never seen a reason to open this window. The truck leaked water in the rear window area before we purchased it, causing rust on the seat mounts—I found and resolved the problem (clogged drains) and there is no longer an issue with leaking.
