Scout Campers just unveiled the Taktut, a new shell model at the 2023 Overland Expo West. Named after Canada’s Taktut Nogait National Park, the Taktut is light enough and small enough to be carried on mid-size trucks with 5-foot beds, including the Toyota Tacoma, the Ford Ranger, the Chevy Colorado, and the Jeep Gladiator. This is good news as most mid-size trucks sport a payload rating around 1,400 pounds.
Scout Campers, a division of Adventurer Manufacturing, hopes that it can capitalize on the popular trend of building DIY interiors first made popular by our friends at Total Composites and Bear Adventure Vehicles.
With a dry weight of only 634 pounds, the Taktut is nearly 300 pounds lighter than its counterpart, Scout’s Yoho model. Like Scout’s three larger models, the Taktut features a robust aluminum exo-skeleton framing with a gel coat fiberglass exterior and roof. It also uses a full-composite, substrate construction without wood. Unlike the other Scout models, which provide sleeping for between four to six individuals, however, Tuktut’s sleeping capacity is sized for two, with aftermarket customization possible for more.
The standard amenities the Tuktut shell model include a 22-inch entry door with clear glass window and snap cover, an entry assist bar, thermal pane windows with screens and solar reflective shades, outdoor performance fabric cushions, a ratchet tie-down system, a spacious 47.5 x 69.6-inch bunk mattress.
Factory options include removable camper jacks, bilateral bedrail runners, and an all-new powder-coated portaledge bunk extension system. The new portaledge bunk extension allows for a full 80-inch sleeping length and features a new Molle design for multifunctional storage solution when in the stow position. For customers looking to incorporate features available on Scout’s Yoho or Olympic models, upfitting is slated to be made available through any of Scout’s dealers and service centers.
Beyond the standard and optional features available from the factory, Scout just announced a formal partnership with Goose Gear. The Goose Gear team worked closely with Scout’s engineers to create six unique Explore Series cabinet modules. These modules are available for purchase and installation through any of Scout’s existing dealer/service centers, any of Goose Gear’s dealer locations, or at the Scout factory in Yakima, Washington.
Pricing for the Taktut starts at $16,500 for the base model. Pre-orders are being taken now. To learn more visit the Scout Campers website at www.scoutcampers.com.
